Welcome Week September 5-8

The first week of school is Welcome Week!
Tuesday, September 5
We are having a family Pancake Breakfast from 10:00 to 11:00. Everyone is welcome. Kindergarten families, please visit our administration assistant Jenn Elliott, who will be out on the playground at a table, to let us know you are here!
At 11:00 Grade 1-3 students will visit their last teacher for an hour before dismissal at noon. New Gr. 1-3 students will be given a tour and join a class for the rest of the morning. Kindergarten students are dismissed at 11:00 and start their gradual entry schedules on Wednesday.
Wednesday. September 6 to Friday, September 8
DO NOT BRING SCHOOL SUPPLIES DURING WELCOME WEEK! Students only need to bring lunch/snacks and water bottles.
Beginning Wednesday, Kindergarten students will be working with all the teachers who are planned to teach kindergarten so we can get to know your children before assigning them to classrooms Friday after school.
Grade 1-3 students will be placed in multi-age groups and will cycle through learning activities for the first three days. This is something we tried last year, and feedback was overall positive. Teachers and students enjoyed getting to meet children from different grade levels, and students made connections with teachers they don’t normally have the chance to work with. These relationships were evident all year in the hallways and on the playgrounds. Many students found new peer connections outside of their previous classroom ones, and there were examples of students who felt a lot more comfortable going into new classes because of the experience. Welcome week also allows us to revisit our class plans, taking new registrations and those who moved over summer into account, ensuring we have proper staffing in place, and thoughtfully place all students into classrooms on Friday after school.
Welcome Week ends on Friday, and later Friday afternoon all parents will receive an e-mail from their children’s new teacher to introduce themselves.
Monday, September 11
All students will be with their new classroom teachers. Please hold onto your school supplies until today! They will not be needed during Welcome Week (we will provide supplies).
When will the office be open?
The office is reopening on Monday, August 21. Office hours are usually 8-4, closed over lunch, but there may be training, etc. happening that could adjust those hours. If you are able, please consider calling ahead (250) 344-5513 to check our availability.
Have a great summer. We are excited to welcome families to Alexander Park for the 2023-24 school year in September!
